Yes, things are a-changin'. In my part of Brazil, it finally feels like fall. Temperatures have dropped and we have blessed relief from the scorching summer heat. We also have a break from the sky-high electric bills we racked up by powering our life-saving fans and air conditioners. Electricity is pricey commodity in this country, even more so after last year’s nationwide rate hike of about 60%, and the current climate of inflation. Between October and April I paid about USD$100 for electricity per month, and while that might not seem like a lot to you, it’s actually almost 20% of the average Brazilian’s monthly income. It’s so good to have a respite.
